The customary cheery greeting for shop patrons in Japan. It’s just a simple ‘welcome~!’
I know that weeks, months, years (yes, I hope I’m still actively writing years from now — I plan to), I will look back on this entry, my “first” entry of so many failed tries to start an active writing habit, and be like, ‘Oh, so that’s what I titled my first entry.’
Actually, no wait, that’s probably a lie. I’ll remember this title because I’ve deliberated over it way too much.
I wish I could pretend that the title was entirely spontaneous and witty so I can affirm that I’m a spontaneously witty person but sadly, I cannot. I will not lie, I’ve been thinking for ages what I would want to title my first blog entry; so much so that it’s actually one of the biggest reasons why I haven’t started a blog yet despite wanting to for just as long. Not a main reason, mind you, but bigger than it should have been.
It was spontaneous to an extent though. Classic and cliched, I thought of it as I was showering last night (and just what is it exactly about the shower that seems to inspire so much creativity?).
I picked it because well, on one hand, not only do I feel like I’m welcoming people to my blog but that I’m also welcoming myself. Even though I typed the letters, once they appear and formulate that word on the screen, it becomes a separate entity. Once I publish this post, even if I come back and edit it, the fact remains that whatever I wrote before, I’ll be experiencing as reader, like the rest of you.
So, welcome, readers! And welcome, writer~!
A secondary reason I picked it was because it was a short and sweet way to show my Japanese heritage. It’s a big part of my life and to how I am today so I’ll be talking about it a lot. By no means do I profess myself an expert in that culture and there will be times, no doubt, that I might sound like a cultural snob, but bear me out as I intend to use this blog for various purposes, not the least of which is to work out the various tangles of myself and my life.
(So, welcome, everyone! Welcome, Lisa~!)
It’s probably not the perfect title as it stinks of commercialism (seriously, it’s only used in stores and restaurants), but I kind of wanted to give off that cheery ‘welcome to this new place/world that I’ll hope you’ll enjoy!’ impression.
Now I just need to come up with an appropriate title for my blog (which I’ve already been thinking about way too long for my own good . . . )
